Income Tax Filing Checklist (FY 2025–26)

Basic Information:

  • PAN

  • Aadhaar

  • Bank account details (with IFSC)

  • Address & mobile/email (linked to Aadhaar & PAN)

  • Employment type (Salaried / Freelancer / Business / Retired / NRI)

 

Documents Required (Category-wise)

1. For Salaried Individuals:

  • Form 16 from employer

  • Salary slips (if Form 16 is not available)

  • Proof of deductions:

    • LIC/PPF/NSC receipts (80C)

    • Medical insurance (80D)

    • Education loan interest (80E)

    • Rent receipts (if claiming HRA)

  • Form 26AS / AIS / TIS

 

2. For Business / Professionals / Freelancers:

  • Summary of income & expenses

  • Bank statements (business account)

  • Books of accounts or spreadsheets (if maintained)

  • GST returns (if applicable)

  • Asset & liability statement (if required under 44AB)

  • TDS certificates (Form 16A)

 

3. For Capital Gains:

  • Sale/purchase documents of property, shares, mutual funds, gold, etc.

  • Demat account transaction statement

  • Purchase cost documents (bills, indexation details)

  • Brokerage and expense receipts

  • Computation sheet (if already prepared)

 

4. For Rental Income:

  • Rent agreement

  • Municipal tax receipts

  • Interest certificate on housing loan

  • Co-ownership details (if applicable)

 

5. For Other Income:

  • Interest on FD, savings, bonds (Bank passbook or Form 16A)

  • Dividend income

  • Agricultural income

  • Family pension / annuity

  • Crypto trading summary (if any)

 

6. For NRIs:

  • Passport + visa/residency details

  • NRO/NRE account details

  • Foreign income details (salary, investments, etc.)

  • Details of remittances made to India

  • Tax paid abroad (for DTAA claim)

 

7. General Compliance:

  • Aadhaar-PAN linking status

  • Form 10E (if salary arrears relief is being claimed)

  • Advance tax challans (if paid manually)

  • Details of past returns filed (if revised return needed)
